Call Before You Dig

Purpose

By state law, if you are going to dig, you must call Pennsylvania One Call at (800) 242-1776. The purpose of this call is to advise utility providers of exactly where you are digging, so that the various utilities in your area may come out and locate their facilities. This way, you will not inadvertently hit an electric or gas line when placing a mailbox, for example.

Consequences of Not Calling

Needless to say, the potential for a dangerous situation or injuries is quite high. Therefore, use of the One Call system is highly recommended. Additionally, if you do not call before you dig, you may be liable for any damages incurred.
