Tax Collection in Upper Uwchlan Township
Real Estate Taxing Entities & Bill Dates
Real estate taxes are levied annually by the following entities:
- Upper Uwchlan Township - Collected by the Chester County Treasurer
- Chester County - Collected by the Chester County Treasurer
- Downingtown Area School District - Collected by Berkheimer Associates
Each entity sets its own tax rate. The county and township fiscal years follow the calendar year from January 1 to December 31. Bills are issued by March annually. The school district fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. Bills are issued on or around July 1 annually.
Assessment
Real estate tax is based on an assessed value determined by the Chester County Board of Assessments. Appeals for reassessment must be made directly to the Chester County Board of Assessments. For millage rate information, click here.
Earned Income Tax
An earned income tax of 1% is collected by the Keystone Collections Group. Of this, 0.5% goes to the Downingtown Area School District, and 0.5% goes directly to the township for services. This tax is not collected by the Township or County office.
Check your pay stub to make sure that Upper Uwchlan Township is listed as your township. Ask your employer’s payroll department if the pay stub seems unclear.

Local Services Tax
If you work in Upper Uwchlan Township, your employer will withhold a local services tax, totaling $10 annually, from your paycheck.
Mercantile Tax
Upper Uwchlan Township does not levy a mercantile tax, also known as a business privilege tax, on the gross receipts of Township businesses.
