CHESTER SPRINGS, PA – The Upper Uwchlan Township Municipal Authority has announced an increase in the quarterly sewer rates by 8.6% to $190 per quarter, effective April 1, 2018. This change will be reflected on the sewer bill received for the second quarter of 2018, which will be mailed to customers in April. This increase amounts to $15 per quarter, or $5 per month, and will allow the Township to continue to provide safe and reliable sewer service. This is the first rate increase the Authority has issued in a number of years. As sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants age, some components require more frequent maintenance to ensure proper operation until they reach the end of their useful life, at which point the components must be replaced. The newest treatment plant in the Township’s system became operational in 2004, and most of the Township’s wastewater collection and distribution system (which includes over 46 miles of pipe and 16 pump stations) is even older than that. Aging infrastructure comes with an increased cost to operate and maintain the system, hence the need for a rate increase. If you have any questions or are interested in discussing the rate increase in additional detail, please review the Township Calendar for the next scheduled Municipal Authority meeting. These meetings (which typically occur on the fourth Tuesday of each month) always set aside time for public comment, at which time your questions or discussion can be voiced.Upper Uwchlan Township is a Township of the Second class, population 11,500, located in central Chester County, PA.
