Trash

Berkheimer Outsourcing is the Township’s agent for Trash and Recycling billing.  Residents will receive a bill early in February in the amount of $315.00.  If you have billing questions, please call the Township Office (610) 458-9400.

Pick Up

If your scheduled collection day falls on a Holiday (the actual day of the Holiday, not the "observed" day), your pick up will be the NEXT day, except Friday Holidays, which will be picked up the following Tuesday.

Spring Yard Waste Collection ~ Saturday, May 17, 2008 ~ MUST USE  BIODEGRADABLE BAGS, or open containers, as this collection gets COMPOSTED.  Place your bags / containers curbside the night before.  Biodegradable bags available for sale at the Township Office, $2.50 / 5-bag bundle.”

Collection Sites will be open from 9am to 3pm on the assigned dates. Bring unwanted hazardous household automotive products, home maintenance, lawn and pest control products to the Regional Southeastern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Sponsored by Chester County Board of Commissioners, Chester County Solid Waste Authority, Southeastern Chester county Refuse Authority, PA Department of Environmental Protection, Upper Uwchlan Township and other Participating Municipalities.

These words identify HHW: Caution, Explosive, Toxic, Reactive, Danger, Combustible, Flammable, Poisonous, Warning, Hazardous, and Corrosive.

Unacceptable materials: Latex (water-based) paint, Ammunition, Explosives, Appliances, Radioactive waste, Tires, Infectious waste, Unidentified Waste.

Recyclables

Recycling Bins available at the Township Office, free of charge -- one per household.

Food and beverage containers of clear and colored glass, #1 and # 2 plastic, aluminum and bi-metallic cans may be co-mingled in one bin! Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, copy paper, cereal/cracker boxes should be bundled or placed in brown bags. Corrugated cardboard cut to 30" x 30" and bound.

Call the Township Office at 610-458-9400 to arrange pick up. Please remove doors from refrigerators and freezers.

Bulk Trash

1 Item Per Month. Zone 1 - 3rd Thursday; Zone 2 - 3rd Friday. Examples: chairs, toys, mattresses, small sofas, televisions, bed frames, bicycles. Appliances -- Please remove doors from all appliances.Call the Township Office to confirm the item is acceptable for pick up (610-458-9400).

Did you know Pennsylvania's do-it-yourself oil changers pour more used motor oil down storm drains and on the gorund than was spilled by the Exxon Valdex? Don't contribute to water pollution - recycle your used oul at one of the local service centers listed below.

  • Coatesville: Malcolm Wright Buick.

Disposal Options For Home Healthcare Waste

Ask your doctor if he or she will accept your properly "containerized" sharps for safe dispoal.

Contact your local hospital to see if it will accept sharps that have been properly secured in a container.

Check with your pharmacy. Some sell specially designed containers for use by homeowners in securing health care wastes for disposal in household trash.

If your community is served by a regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection facility, ask if it will accept your sharps. In Chester County, call 610-344-5937.

    DO:
  • Place sharps in an opaque, puncture-resistant container with a lid.
  • Seal the lids on containers of sharps with heavy-duty tape.
  • Seal trash bags with tape or wire or plastic ties.
  • Label plastic jug or metal can "DO NOT RECYCLE".
  • Keep waste containers out of reach of childern and animals.
    DON'T:
  • Place loose sharps in the trash or toilet.
  • Label the containers as medical waste.
  • Clip needles with a pair of scissors.
  • Place sealed containers in with recyclables.
  • DO NOT RECYCLE ANY SHARPS!
