Upper Uwchlan Township has approximately forty miles of township-maintained roads. Penn DOT also maintains roads within Upper Uwchlan Township.

Following is a list of the roads that are state-owned and maintained by Penn DOT. Problems on these roads should be called into Penn DOT at 610.436.2091. This is the Chester County Maintenance Office number, and thye are the ones in charge of the State roads in Upper Uwchlan Township.

  • Pottstown Pike (RT 100)
  • Little Conestoga Road
  • Dorlan Mills Road
  • Byers Road
  • Conestoga Road

Most of the other roads are maintained by Upper Uwchlan Township. If you see problems with potholes, overhanging tree branches, signage, debris dumped, traffic signals, etc., please call the Township.

Roads under construction in new developments, which will be dedicated to the Township when work is completed, are the responsibility of the developer until such dedication takes place.

Traffic Signals

Penn DOT issues permits to the Township for all Traffic Signals. The municipality must maintain these signalized intersections. PennDOT reviews all requests for, location, timing changes, signage, etc. Before any traffic signal may be changed, PennDOT must review, approve, and change the permit. They will then send the changed permit to the Township for field application.

Regarding Township roads and State roads, it is important to know that before any signage may be placed for which one may receive a citation e.g. speed limit, no parking, stop signs, etc., a Engineering and Traffic Study must be done. The Federal government publishes the rules that govern the studies. There is a “Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices” which indicates what signs may be placed, under what conditions they may be placed, and how Engineering and Traffic Studies must be done.

Therefore, please be patient when you make a sign request, and be assured we are trying our best, and will go through all the proper procedures as expeditiously as legally possibly.
